Airport Information Desk
This project centered on creating an ADA-compliant airport information desk that balanced functionality, accessibility, and a modern aesthetic inspired by Arata Isozaki's architectural philosophy. Isozaki's work is a thoughtful blend of tradition and modernity, serving as the foundation for the design, emphasizing geometric precision, minimalism, and harmony within the surrounding environment.
The desk's structure incorporates clean lines and modular elements reminiscent of Isozaki’s Metabolist influences, with a flexible layout to accommodate diverse traveler needs. Key features include:
A two-tiered counter height to ensure accessibility for both standing passengers and wheelchair users, adhering to ADA guidelines.
Materials like polished metal and tempered glass evoke Isozaki's use of industrial elements, while warm wood paneling softens the aesthetic, creating a welcoming atmosphere.
Integrated lighting into the wood paneling highlights its sculptural form while ensuring visibility for travelers during all hours.
This design not only meets ADA compliance but also transforms a high-traffic utility space into an engaging architectural statement that resonates with Isozaki’s timeless approach to design.
